Clouded leopard Orchid recently received her routine wellness exam, which included x-rays, an ultrasound, dental cleaning, vaccination boosters and blood and urine collection for testing.
Orchid lives with her brother, Banyan, at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s Wild Wonders Outdoor Theater, where the two cats serve as animal ambassadors.
After Orchid is anesthetized and transported to the Zoo animal hospital, Associate Veterinarian Dr. Kadie Anderson checks her mouth, teeth, tail and overall body condition.
Dr. Anderson then examines Orchid’s paws and trims her nails
Intern Veterinarian Dr. Cassidy Soehnlein collects blood for future analysis.
The team takes a series of x-rays.
Dr. Soehnlein performs an ultrasound, checking Orchid’s kidneys and other internal organs, and then collects urine for testing.
Finally, Veterinary Technician Julie gives Orchid a thorough dental cleaning.
“Orchid is in excellent health,” Dr. Anderson says to the team.
