The San Diego Zoo, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park are partnering to provide a virtual adventure television channel in Mary Bridge Children’s hospital patient rooms. This new channel is being provided by San Diego Zoo Global as part of its children’s hospital network that airs at almost 200 facilities.

The collaborative effort between children’s hospitals and zoos and aquariums has been made possible by a generous gift from noted philanthropist Denny Sanford and a grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services.

San Diego Zoo Kids Channel provides family-friendly, animal-oriented programming that is fun, entertaining, and educational.

The channel includes a wide variety of three to five minute video vignettes along with programs that contain highlights from some zoo’s animal cams. There are currently over forty hours of programming that repeats throughout the day.

There are three new videos filmed at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and one filmed at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. These videos will be included on the channel at all the hospitals in the network.

The News Tribune covered the event.

The videos launched at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital on Friday Sept. 6, to a rapt audience. Here’s one of them.
