As part of the Pacific Seas Aquarium Community Celebration, we’re having a special ocean storytime at 11am every Thursday in the Baja Bay area of the Pacific Seas Aquarium! Fun for for kids and adults. All activities free with Zoo admission. Join us!

 

April 4: Critter Club – Super Sea Turtles

Where: Meet at Baja Bay, Pacific Seas Aquarium

A fun story, hands-on activity and animal experience for 3-5-year-olds and their grown-ups. This one is themed around sea turtles – and you can see our two turtles Sunny and Azul get a treat afterwards!

April 11: Ben Clanton, local author

Where: Meet at Baja Bay, Pacific Seas Aquarium

Seattle author Ben Clanton’s delightful, whimsical stories of the unlikely friends Narwhal and Jelly will entrance everyone. Aimed at kids aged 6-9, Clanton’s books  – four so far, published by Random House – follow the undersea adventures of the happy-go-lucky Narwhal and his best friend Jelly through adorable illustrations and clever plotlines. Then meet real jellies inside our marvelous Jelly Globe!

April 11: Gordon Huether at the Art+Sci Salon

Where: Kittredge Gallery, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. Warner St., Tacoma, WA 98416

Join Pacific Seas Aquarium artist Gordon Huether as he collaborates with local scientists at the University of Puget Sound’s Art+Sci Salon to talk about how humans perceive light – and how that helps him create astonishing public art works like “Shoal” and “Shimmer.” Also on the Art+Sci program: Dr. Peter Wimberger, UPS biologist, on the evolutionary ecology of fish schooling, color and vision; plus UPS neuroscientist Dr. Siddarth Ramakrishnan on how our brains “see” color.

Free.

April 25: SAMi Spanish Storytime

SAMi students storytimeWhen: 11am
Where: Meet at Baja Bay, Pacific Seas Aquarium

Join the Spanish class from Tacoma’s Science and Math Institute, a high school with a campus right here at the Zoo, for a bilingual storytime about the ocean. This story has been written by SAMI students, and will be read and enacted by the students as well. Come learn more about our beautiful ocean and how we can work together to make this world a healthier place for everybody both above and beneath the sea!.

April 25: Night at the Museum – Stories from the Sea

Come touch, feel, see and even smell fascinating underwater artefacts from the collection of the Slater Museum! We’re partnering with the Slater to bring you a fascinating evening of science stories from the ocean that are literally hands-on. Free.
