I’m a member. Do I really need a timed online ticket?

Yes, members still need timed tickets for visits through June 30, 2021! Everyone visiting the Zoo (except infants under 3) needs a timed online ticket. They are free for member daytime tickets, and discounted for member Zoolights tickets.

Do my guests need one too?

Yes, EVERYONE needs a timed online ticket. You may reserve as many tickets as are covered by your membership type, including guests under Deluxe levels.

I’m trying to reserve a ticket time, but my member ID isn’t working/I don’t know my member ID. What do I do?

Make sure you are using the most current issued member ID. If your membership has been renewed, changed, or had lost cards replaced, your member ID has changed.
Check your email. You should have recently received an email with your most current member ID. If you are not receiving emails, please contact us at or 253-404-3635.

Can I exchange tickets?

Timed online tickets are non-refundable, but as a member you may visit as often as you like.
You may enter the Zoo up to 60 minutes after your ticketed time on that date. If your plans change and you will not be visiting as reserved, please notify us so we can release the space for other members.

What should I expect at the Zoo? What is open and closed? Is it safe?

Do I need to bring anything when I visit?

Yes! Please bring your photo ID and timed online ticket (either printed or on your phone) to scan your ticket at the no-touch entry.

Anything else?

You should also plan to bring a water bottle (refilling stations are OPEN, drinking fountains are CLOSED), and credit/debit cards for in-Zoo purchases. Plaza Cafe is open daily with indoor dining at a limited capacity and covered deck seating. Rocky Shores Swirl is open Saturdays and Sundays.

What about masks?

Face coverings are required for non-vaccinated guests ages 5 and over and encouraged for vaccinated guests in compliance with CDC and Washington state guidelines.

What if I am unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition?

We understand that some people have medical conditions that are affected by wearing face coverings.

Mondays 2-3pm are reserved for people with a medical condition, mental health condition or disability that prevents them from wearing a face covering.




How do I purchase or renew a membership?

New memberships can be purchased online here. You can renew your membership here.

Can I apply my paid Zoo admission ticket toward an annual membership on the day of my visit?

Yes, you may. Please bring your ticket to a Zoo staff member at the front gate or call 253.404.3635.

Are there any discounts for purchasing memberships? *

Military receive a 10% discount on memberships. Must show valid military ID to receive the discount.
Paid admissions can be applied towards a membership purchase. (Valid only on the day of visit/receipt and valid only for the admission paid that would be covered under the membership.)
Renewing members will receive special limited-time promotional codes for discounted renewal of memberships.
*Only 1 discount per membership purchase. Discounts are not valid on prior purchases.

I purchased online. When will I receive my membership card?

We do not mail Membership cards. You should have received an emailed confirmation with an attached temporary membership card pdf. Bring this or proof of purchase, plus your photo ID, to the Zoo’s front gate to have your membership cards printed on an upcoming visit. The temporary member card pdf can be used until you pick up your permanent cards.

Who should I name as the 2nd named adult on my membership?

Named adults are non-transferable so it is best for the 2nd named adult to be the person in your household most likely to attend the Zoo without you.

I have a nanny. What’s the best membership for me?

The Household or Deluxe Household memberships can work for you but the nanny must be a named adult on the membership in order for him/her to receive admission when bringing the children to the Zoo without you. The nanny can be listed as the 2nd named adult on the membership or you can purchase an additional named adult for only $40 (restrictions apply).

Do I need to include children under the age of 3 on my membership?

Children aged 2 and under receive free admission to the Zoo; therefore, you do not need to include your child on your membership if he/she is age 2 or under. If your child turns 3 years old before your membership expires, you may add a child to your membership (or upgrade, if you’ve purchased a 1+1 membership) at any time.




Can I purchase a membership as a gift?

Yes. You can purchase a gift of membership (new or renewal) online. If you aren’t sure whether the gift recipient already has a membership, please contact us at  or 253.404.3635 to verify.




When does my membership expire?

The expiration date is printed on the back of your membership card. If you have lost your membership card, please email us at Memberships expire at the end of the month one year from the date of purchase. If you are renewing a current membership, it will expire one year from current expiration date.

NOTE: We have extended memberships six months to compensate for our closure period and our modified operations due to Covid-19.

How can I change my address?

Can a name on my membership be changed?

Zoo memberships are non-transferable. Name changes can be made when you renew your membership; other changes throughout the year are limited and subject to a $10 fee.

Do members receive free and/or discounted tickets to Zoolights?

Members receive discounted tickets to Zoolights of about 50 percent off general admission prices for the individuals covered under their membership. Member discounted tickets may be purchased online.


How do I replace a lost membership card?

Please email us at There is a $10 processing fee for a replacement membership card.

Can my nanny or guest bring my children to the Zoo without me?

Yes. Legal dependents in your household aged 17 and under will be admitted to the Zoo under your membership (excluding 1+1 memberships).* However, if the nanny or guest is not listed as a named adult on your membership, he/she will be charged a general admission fee. Guest passes are only valid when at least one named adult on the membership is also present.

*Memberships may not be used for admission during school field trips.

Can I use my membership at other zoos and aquariums?

You can use your membership for entry at other reciprocal zoos and aquariums across the country for half-price admission. (Get the list here.) Remember, each zoo has its own policies and your membership privileges may not work the same way at each zoo. Please contact the zoo you are visiting prior to arrival for specific details and to make sure there have been no changes. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium memberships are NOT reciprocal with Woodland Park Zoo.

I have a membership with a reciprocal zoo. Can I use the guest passes included with that membership?

We are not offering any reciprocity discounts at this time.


Is my membership tax-deductible?

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium provides services in exchange for membership dues. As such, membership dues do not qualify as charitable contributions and are not tax-deductible. However, charitable donations to PDZA and/or The Zoo Society are tax-deductible, including Vision Keeper Club donations, Adopt an Animal purchases, and gifts that support conservation projects.


How do I purchase an Adopt an Animal package?
