We are Puget Sound
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is proud to partner with Washington Conservation Action and Braided River to bring We Are Puget Sound, a free photo exhibit, to the Pacific Seas Aquarium beginning June 5.
Inspired by the 2020 book and regional campaign, the exhibit features stunning photography and powerful stories from communities across the Puget Sound region. We Are Puget Sound highlights the people, places, and ideas driving efforts to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound for future generations.
Discovering and recovering the Salish Sea
The photo exhibit features images from We Are Puget Sound: Discovering and Recovering the Salish Sea (Braided River, 2019), a book showcasing regional photographers and the people working to protect Puget Sound’s waters, wildlife, and communities.

Puget Sound is vital to urban and rural communities, Tribal Nations, and First Nations throughout British Columbia and Washington State. The Salish Sea supports cultural traditions, local economies, and diverse wildlife, including endangered Southern Resident orcas and Chinook salmon.

While Puget Sound is known for its breathtaking beauty, the region faces growing challenges from pollution, habitat loss, development, resource extraction, and climate change. Protecting and restoring the Salish Sea will require long-term collaboration, innovation, and commitment to the health of the people, plants, and animals that depend on it.
