Trolls: A Field Study
Welcoming trolls to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
Discover an immersive outdoor art experience in Thomas Dambo’s TROLLS: A Field Study, where whimsical giant troll sculptures hide among the lush gardens, winding trails, and wildlife habitats at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Quietly curious, the trolls observe humans as we wander through the wild spaces they call home.
Handcrafted from reclaimed materials like fallen branches, scrap wood, pallets, and twigs, each troll has its own unique personality and story. Included with general admission or membership to the zoo.
More than an art installation, TROLLS: A Field Study invites guests to slow down, explore the outdoors, and see nature through a new lens. Created from reclaimed materials, the monumental sculptures highlight sustainability, creativity, and environmental stewardship while inspiring guests to find beauty in the world around them.
Born in Odense, Denmark, in 1979, Thomas Dambo’s mission is to create art that inspires people to explore, have adventures in nature, and show that recycled goods can be turned into something beautiful. After graduating from the Kolding Design School in Kolding, Denmark, Thomas began creating colorful art installations from recycled materials, laying the foundation for his artwork today.
Continue the adventure at our sister zoo, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, where 8 more trolls are awaiting your arrival.
