Sumatran tiger Mawar recently underwent a routine wellness exam at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s healthcare clinic. Under anesthesia, the veterinary team completed a thorough physical assessment including X-rays, an ultrasound, bloodwork, and she received IV fluids and updated vaccinations. Head veterinarian Dr. Karen Wolf confirmed that all results were normal and Mawar is in good health.

“These exams are an essential part of her regular preventive care to keep her healthy and closely monitored,” said Dr. Wolf. “They allow us to closely assess her overall condition and identify any potential health concerns early. They also allow us to be proactive in preventing disease, by taking actions such as updating vaccines when needed or providing comprehensive dental care.”

Mawar is known for her cautious, curious nature. She carefully explores her surroundings, often “talking” with her keepers, and becomes playful and confident once she trusts her environment. She especially enjoys relaxing in her den on a soft wood wool bed.
