Adult volunteers assist with a variety of activities around the Zoo from on-grounds education to connecting students and families to the wonder of the natural world. Check out our requirements and explore opportunities below.

Volunteer Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • Interested in and care about people, animals, and conservation
  • Committed to creating a welcoming environment for all
  • Able to meet their position’s minimum commitment of hours
  • Able to attend training and orientation dates
  • Able to pass a standard national background check
  • A suggested donation of $40 helps us keep this program accessible to all

Application Process

Easy as 1, 2, 3.

STEP 1: Complete and submit an online application.

STEP 2: Attend an information session and meet with supervisors.

STEP 3: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium orientation, compulsory for all accepted volunteers.
