5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us to find out how to save our Puget Sound icon - the orca.
Orca researcher Ken Balcomb leads an evening of learning and dialogue at the University of Washington Tacoma, co-hosted by Citizens for a Healthy Bay, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, Center for Whale Research, DamSense, Friends of the Earth, Orca Network and Endangered Species Coalition.
Our southern resident orcas are iconic in the Northwest, and have been interconnected with people for thousands of years. But now their survival is in peril. Chinook salmon - their main food source - have declined so much that our orcas are starving to death.
But we can still save them if we act now.
Balcomb will share his perspective on these incredible whales and the threat of their imminent extinction. He'll be joined by civil engineer Jim Waddell to present swift and attainable solutions to save this beloved species.
