Happy Earth Day! π Arlington Elementaryβs first and second graders were bubbling with excitement for their Park Week lessons at South Tacomaβs Oak Tree Park. Ready to go, sporting their waterproof science jackets, the students explored their local park in a new way. These kids are Wildlife Champions. They are part of a long-term partnership between Point Defiance Zoo and Tacoma Public Schools. Both Arlington and Lister elementary schools participate in the program. The purpose of Wildlife Champions is to help kids develop empathy for wildlife. They also learn to be good stewards of their schools and neighborhoods, including their local parks. π±
Willow update! π Our shaggy baby is now over 200 pounds and growing her horns! The 7-month-old muskox is shedding her qiviut for summer. Willow continues to do well living with her 545-pound mom Charlotte. π

With warmer temperatures, it`s time for outdoor zoo adventures with Jumbo Jet and Cessna, our 30-year-old endangered radiated tortoises! π’ The slow but adorable lawnmowers were busy grazing on dandelions and grasses. πΌ
Kali, the endangered Sumatran tiger, celebrated her 11th birthday with meatballs topped with whipped cream, a tasty meat-sicle cake, and enrichment toys (and veggies like cabbage and celery) to chew on and play with! π Born at the Zoo, Kali has been a beloved member of our family since day one. Happy birthday, Kali, we love you! β€οΈ
