Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is continuing its holiday lights recycling program this year.

We hope to keep thousands of strings of lights out of the landfill and make some money for conservation while we're at it!

Last year was a brilliant success, so let's make this year even brighter!

History

Then nine-year-old Jessica Lam of Federal Way approached Zoo staff two years ago with an idea to keep thousands of strings of holiday lights out of the landfill and raise money for the Zoo's conservation fund.

Jessica and the Zoo hope families will bring their old holiday lights to the zoo when they come to Zoolights instead of throwing them in the trash. Our goal is to collect 10,000 strings of holiday lights between now and early January.

How to Donate
*Please keep light strand donations as simple as possible and remove all packaging, twist-ties, rubberbands, etc. before you load them into the bins.
