Oregon Spotted Frog
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is deeply committed to saving one of our local endangered species, the Oregon spotted frog. The Zoo's conservation committee contributed more than $20,000 to the reintroduction of the Oregon spotted frog in 2008 alone. PDZA staff helped release hundreds of state endangered Oregon spotted frogs back into the wild in an effort to jumpstart a population once abundant throughout the Puget Sound region. The tiny frogs were collected as fertilized eggs and nurtured at Northwest Trek to improve their chances of survival when they returned to the wild.
