What is the process for getting my group/organization signed up for a community group service project?
Please review the current openings for projects and then complete a Group Service Project Application. Our staff will respond within two weeks to coordinate logistics for the project. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you are confirmed for a project.

How many volunteers can you host?
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium can host a variety of group sizes based on the project needs. Please review the project description for exact numbers.

How long are the group projects?
Most projects are designed to last 2-4 hours. The project descriptions will specify the length of service.

Can the group visit the zoo & aquarium before or after their service project?
Groups interested in visiting the zoo & aquarium grounds before or after their project must purchase admission tickets.  Tickets purchased prior to the day of service will be given the lowest discounted admission ticket price ($5 per person).  Purchase your tickets by contacting Group Reservations.

How far in advance should we schedule our project?

The sooner, the better! We confirm projects in the order requests are received. All projects should be scheduled at least three weeks in advance. Please complete and return a Group Service Project Application.

Do we need to bring supplies?
For most projects, we will supply all materials. For horticulture projects, it is advised to bring your own work gloves.

What should we wear?
Each project has different requirements for what to wear and bring, so read descriptions carefully. Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. For outside projects, be prepared to work in all weather conditions and dress in layers. Please make sure that any text or artwork on your clothing is family-friendly.

Where should we go the day of our project?
A staff member will meet your group at the Zoo's main entrance and escort you to the project site. Please make sure that your group is on time. Specific instructions will be given to the group coordinator prior to the day of your project.

What happens if it is raining on the day of my volunteer project or the project can't be completed?
Most volunteer projects are designed for any weather, so please dress appropriately. We will contact you as soon as possible if for some reason the project can not be completed. We will try to reschedule based on future availability, but rescheduling is not guaranteed.

Is food provided?
We encourage you to bring recyclable beverage containers that can be refilled by water fountain or cooler. If you would like to have a meal on grounds, we have catering and restaurants available. Let us know in advance what your needs are so we can be most helpful.

Is there any paperwork to fill out?
All participants are required to sign a release of liability form upon arrival. This form is also proof of participation. 

What are the benefits of volunteering?
Your day of service helps us complete projects in a timely matter. It also serves as a team building or social outing for your group members.
